The character design, or story, or any intricate feature of a game is based on the same rules and concepts that govern other modes of entertainment, like movies, music, theatre, etc. Although the other modes of entertainment are very much different from games, there is something about striking a balance between more than one factors, or simply placing more focus on one or more select factors that is similar to almost all modes of entertainment. When it comes to most other non gaming modes of entertainment, you are a more passive observer of the actions and events on stage, field, or screen (or speakers!). However, gamers are expected to take the action in their stride with the mind working all the time to decide how good the character’s fate is and more. Gaming, however, today seems to be very much interrelated to the world of movies, music, books, sports and more. It all depends on the creative mind put the latest events in the form of top PC games, for instance. However, when we talk of the factors that govern gaming or any other mode of entertainment, we are talking of things like the story, the visuals, the sound, and more. There needs to be intelligent choice of what is required, what is not, and what can be a sidekick. Many action games and shooter games might not have the need to story as much as strategy games. The situation is the exact opposite when it comes to crisp control scheme or camera movement.
