Diffusion camera filters are used by portrait photographers and movie makers. When trying to diffuse to improve a facial appearance, it is important to lightly diffuse the adjacent scenes and subjects without disturbing the quality of the filter. Circular camera filters are used to diffuse faces to see that the eyes are not overly soft and dull. The circular camera filters have a series of concentric circles etched into the surface. These concentric circles pattern themselves by bending the light in a better and efficient way than nets. This is often done by aligning the centre of the circular pattern with one of the subject’s eyes. The rest of the image will automatically exhibit the diffusion effect.
A variation of circular camera filters is the Centre-Spot filter. This is a special effect filter that has a moderate amount of diffusion surrounding the central area. These types of camera filters are used to isolate the main subject from the background. Another portrait diffusion camera filter involves the use of small “dimples”. These dimples are round or diamond-shaped. They are better capable of selecting the diffusion than the fine mesh type camera filter. Even the subject’s eye need not be aligned with the centre. The dimples refract light throughout the surface, thus do not change the contrast of the colour. These dimple-based portrait diffusion camera filters can efficiently hide the fine details for any given amount of clear space. They are a better choice than the circular camera filters.
